His resume includes serving as Cook County’s Assistant State’s Attorney, Felony Trial Court Supervisor in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, and as Legal Advisor to the Cook County Sheriff. Over his career, his extensive litigation and trial experience includes more than 100 jury trials and more than 1000 bench trials.
He is admitted to practice before state and federal courts, including the Illinois Supreme Court, U.S. District Court for Northern District of Illinois, U.S. District Court for Northern District of Indiana, Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He has served as on the Board of Managers of the Chicago Bar Association, including Chair or Vice-Chair of several committees.
Edward Theobald is well known for his longtime practice in criminal as both a prosecutor and defense attorney, which included high-profile prosecution of serial killers, the successful prosecution and execution of a two-time convicted murderer, and defending many police officers, firefighters, public employees and private individuals charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses. In his work with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Mr. Theobald was called upon to write the jury instructions for the John Wayne Gacy trial.
